Meet the Author | Peni Clark

Peni Clark is a retired kindergarten teacher who now spends her days writing stories about brave little heroes with big hearts.

She lives in Connecticut with her husband, a golden retriever who is always ready for belly rubs, and a rescue cat who considers napping a full-time job.

One Christmas, Peni couldn’t stop thinking about the donkey who carried Mary to Bethlehem.

What if the donkey felt too small? What if she didn’t think she was brave enough?

That question became Jenny’s story, told from the donkey’s heart.

Through her books, Peni hopes children discover that they are stronger than they think, kinder than they know and never too small to do something important.

A Little Donkey with a Big Message

One of the lovely things about children’s picture books is their ability to explore important emotions and life lessons through characters young readers can connect with.

In Jenny’s Journey of Faith, the central character is a donkey who doesn’t believe she has anything particularly special to offer.

Jenny is small. She’s shy. She’s been told she isn’t capable of doing anything important.

Yet her journey shows that courage isn’t necessarily about being the biggest, strongest or loudest.

Sometimes courage means taking a chance, trusting someone who believes in you and discovering strengths you didn’t realise you had.

For young readers who sometimes feel nervous, overlooked or unsure of themselves, Jenny’s story offers an encouraging message.

A Christmas Story from a Different Perspective

The journey of Mary to Bethlehem is a familiar part of the Christmas story.

By choosing to tell it through the eyes of the donkey who carried Mary, Peni Clark offers children an imaginative new perspective.

Rather than focusing solely on the destination, Jenny’s story explores how the journey might have felt to a small animal suddenly entrusted with an important responsibility.

It’s a gentle way to introduce conversations about faith, compassion, responsibility and self-belief.

Why Families Might Enjoy Jenny’s Journey of Faith

Jenny’s Journey of Faith could be a lovely addition to a young reader’s collection for several reasons.

A relatable main character

Jenny’s worries about being too small or too shy may feel familiar to children who are still developing their confidence.

Positive messages

The story explores courage, kindness and believing in yourself without losing its gentle storytelling approach.

A meaningful Christmas connection

Its setting makes it a thoughtful choice for families who enjoy faith-based stories during the festive season.

Opportunities for conversation

Parents, grandparents and educators can use Jenny’s experiences to talk about confidence, kindness and helping others.

An animal character to cheer for

Children who love stories featuring animals may enjoy following Jenny as she discovers what she’s capable of achieving.
