COMING SOON: The Dungeon Campaign for Animal Rites by L. E. Bendon

Discworld meets Knightmare — with purple plants, musical magic and a pampered cat whose translation skills really shouldn’t be relied upon.

This is going to be fun.

From 24th–28th August, the Love Books Tours Crew are heading off on a rather unconventional quest with The Dungeon Campaign for Animal Rites by L. E. Bendon, published by Aneurysm Cupcake.

At 426 pages, this adventure blends fantasy, humour and satire in a world where questing is serious business — even if some of the people doing it perhaps shouldn’t be trusted with the job.

About The Dungeon Campaign for Animal Rites

Melisma Gat put any ideas of a career in magic and adventure behind her long ago.

Now all she wants is to run her inn, entertain the locals and tourists, and provide one final decent night’s sleep for adventurers before they head into the forest on whatever ridiculously dangerous quest some rich idiot from the nearby city of Twunhorm has decided to fund.

A perfectly reasonable ambition.

Unfortunately, things are about to become considerably less reasonable.

When two large creatures burst into her inn during her nightly performance, Melisma discovers the city has been placed under emergency lockdown.

Now she must lead a party of trainees away from their final examination quest and halfway up an imposing mountain if she has any hope of returning to her simple life.

Oh, and preferably save most of the city’s population from being devoured, torn to shreds or whatever else the unleashed magical hybrid creatures have planned.

To get there, Melisma and her inexperienced team will have to overcome obstacles, defeat henchmen, solve riddles and avoid being eaten.

Her resources?

Distant memories of incomplete magical training, a few simple spells, a couple of books she barely remembers buying and the unreliable translation skills of her pampered pet cat.

What could possibly go wrong?

About L. E. Bendon

L. E. Bendon is from London and lives in South India, where most people know him as a musician who spends an awful lot of his spare time writing novels on his laptop in cafés.

His writing career began when his life as a musician was suddenly put on hold in 2020 and he used the unexpected free time to discover whether he could write, polish and publish a novel.

Before his debut novel in 2025, all of his published work was sheet music.

He speaks several languages well enough not to be confused or misled while travelling — although not quite well enough to translate his own books.

He loves cats, but apparently prefers tortoises.

And what does the L. E. stand for?

He hasn’t quite decided. For now, we’ll go with Ludwig Elderberry.
