Welcome
I am delighted to talk to you today about my experience with the Tandem Collective read along of The Cuckoos Calling by Robert Galbraith. I signed up via Instagram and I received a bundle of four books. Along with read along questions for book one. It was so very exciting and although I really can’t engage in all the group chats etc due to time, I did enjoy reading the book and answering the questions.

The Cuckoo’s Calling: Cormoran Strike Book 1

When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case.
Strike is a war veteran – wounded both physically and psychologically – and his life is in disarray. The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model’s complex world, the darker things get – and the closer he gets to terrible danger . . .
A gripping, elegant mystery steeped in the atmosphere of London – from the hushed streets of Mayfair to the backstreet pubs of the East End to the bustle of Soho – The Cuckoo’s Calling is a remarkable book. Introducing Cormoran Strike, this is the acclaimed first crime novel by J.K. Rowling, writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
Book Review by Kelly Lacey
I was delighted to be part of the Tandem Collectives buddy read-along of The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith. It was a first time read for me and I didn’t know quite what to expect. The book is 550 pages. So I was hoping it would be good.
It is not good, it is sublime and absolutely brilliant. The quality of the writing is so rich and it was a real experience to go through the initial process of getting to know the key characters in the series. The author sets the scene perfectly with each chapter. You gain a little more knowledge and often learn more about the key characters too.
Comoran Strike is incredibly flawed and fragile but the urge to like him is to hard to resist. With an abundance of baggage, this gentle giant deserves a break. Living with the raw memories of an absentee famous rock star father and the faces of the ghosts of long-gone comrades from the war. He is now a Private Detective but without regular clients and a relationship on a shaky nail. Things have gone from bad to worse for Comoran.
Robin Ellacott is twenty-five and having recently moved from Yorkshire to live with her boyfriend Matthew in London. She is desperately trying to create a new life for herself. Although temping at the moment she hopes to land the perfect job soon. Her assignment this week is to work for a PI, who just happens to be….. Comoran Strike. When Robin’s world collides with Comoran’s changes in both their worlds has huge consequences.
This modern-day whodunnit has me gripped from start to finish. When a famous supermodel at the top of her game suddenly commits suicide her family wants answers. I had no clue what would happen from chapter to chapter. The book was refreshingly unpredictable.
Great escapism that will have you hooked from chapter one.

I really enjoy this series, and I’m really excited about the next book late this year. Everytime I see the physical books I’m amazed by how THICK they are 😳
