When a young woman is found strangled in her own bedroom, DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles are plunged into an investigation to find a twisted serial killer who likes to date his victims before he kills them.
Determined to stop the horrific deaths, Imogen is forced to act as bait – but will she get caught in her own trap? As the search for the killer ramps up, attention falls on the strange new boy in town. Why does he watch his neighbours through the windows? I was late coming to the party, with this being my first meeting of Katerina Diamonds cast of vulnerable characters. But what I can say with confidence is it will not be my last. I even have the Amazon receipt to show I just bought Ms Diamonds back catalogue.
Can you read the books as standalone? Yes, you can but for me personally, I wish I had read them in order. It’s just a personal preference, as I said you can jump into any of them and you would still understand everything clearly.
First off when I hear the term police procedural it often puts me off a book. On occasion, there are a lot of cliche situations and you read the book but don’t often get a lot from it. Well, hold onto your hat because Ms Diamond writes her police procedurals with emotion and lots of heart. We get to see the people behind the badge. Stripped bare to their inner selves. It adds a different level to the adventure. It’s not soppy or trying too hard it’s just raw, relatable and indeed refreshing.
I loved that we got to have a dip into the life of the victim. So that there was an emotional thread. We as the reader care very much about her so that when her life is cut short. We want to get the monster that did it just as much as the fictional team of DS Grey and DS Miles. This is not a spoiler it tells you on the back on the book!
There were so many interlinking threads to the book. At first, I didn’t understand where I was being taken but I went with it. It was like a mixed up 1000 word puzzle all executed beautifully and you are just in awe at the storytelling skills of Ms Diamond.
I thought the book was going to be a dark and gory read and it was the total opposite. A fast-paced psychological thriller.
