SHHH! THE SECRET POLICEMAN RETURNS TO THE FRINGE WITH THE GUILTY FEMINIST

COMING TO EDINBURGH PLAYHOUSE, TICKETS GO ON SALE TOMORROW

The Guilty Feminist podcast will join forces with Amnesty International UK to bring The Secret Policeman’s Podcast to this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Coming to Edinburgh Playhouse on Fri 24 – Sat 25 August tickets go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 1 August.

Following The Secret Policeman’s tradition of bringing together legendary comics and brilliant minds for a night of hilarious comedy for human rights, Deborah Frances-White will assemble a cast of powerfully funny and diverse performers to deliver The Secret Policeman’s Podcast at the Edinburgh Playhouse for two exclusive nights.

The Secret Policeman’s Podcast brings together the best comics around to raise awareness and funds for Amnesty International – the shows will highlight the Families Together campaign, calling on the UK government to change the restrictive rules keeping refugees in the UK apart from those they love. The shows will also feature the case of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, imprisoned in Iran after an unfair trial and separated from her husband and young daughter.

Hosted by Deborah Frances-White, the shows will be recorded and edited for a podcast which will be available after the Fringe.

Deborah Frances-White Host of The Guilty Feminist Podcast, said: “I could not be more delighted for The Guilty Feminist to join forces with Amnesty International to bring The Secret Policeman back to life for 2018. Amnesty ignites us to stand together with those striving to enjoy the human rights we are all born with. It reminds us that every human life is equally valuable and that the human experience is lived millions of different ways.

“The Guilty Feminist is delighted to co-curate with Amnesty International a hugely talented bill of performers who reflect the various fascinating windows we look through to create hysterical comedy and magical music. I’m beyond excited to build on the magnificent Secret Policeman’s tradition of presenting comedy greats for a night of misbehaviour. We will bring the funny to The Edinburgh Playhouse for two rocking, historical nights but cannot guarantee the roof will be where it was when we leave.”

Naomi McAuliffe, Amnesty International’s Scotland Programme Director, said: “We are thrilled to welcome The Guilty Feminist to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for The Secret Policeman’s Podcast and cannot wait to be inspired, entertained, and left helpless with laughter. Comedy has a unique power to challenge us – as well as change hearts and minds – and it is a true honour for us to work with Deborah Frances-White and a host of comedy greats.

“The Secret Policeman’s Podcast is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of our work and we are delighted that the shows will highlight our Families Together campaign and Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s case; we have long campaigned for her release in Scotland, and Edinburgh is the city where she and her husband Richard spent happy holidays.“

The Secret Policeman’s Podcast is at the Edinburgh Playhouse on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 August 7.30 – 10.30pm (approx.). Tickets for the event will cost £25 and go on sale on Wednesday 1 August, with all profits from sales being donated to Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust.
