Today on LBG I am reviewing Simon Bookers new novel Kill Me Twice. Published by Zaffre books on the 24th of August 2017.
Synopsis
Karl Savage is dead.
He must be. His ex, Anjelica, is in prison for murdering him in an arson attack. Multiple forensic experts testified to finding his charred remains.
So when Anjelica begs investigative journalist Morgan Vine to prove her innocence, it seems an impossible task. It doesn’t matter that Karl was abusive. That Anjelica has a baby to care for. That she’s petrified of fire. The whole world knows Karl is dead.
Then he turns up outside Morgan’s window . . .
The Review
The book cover I found very appealing with its creepy images and book teasers. The book is well paced, I can’t say I found any of the characters appealing. Although this did not alter my opinion of the story. I’m not a reader that needs to like the characters to enjoy the book. Like in life it’s just not all rainbows and fairies.
Morgan, a chain ‘roll up’ smoking single mum is the main protagonist of the book. I wondered whilst reading, which actress I would want to play her on tv. I really see Vicky McClure in the role.
The story is fast paced and well thought out, although at some points I did feel that there were no consequences to events. Especially the episode between Lissa and Morgan and that lighter. It just felt quite flippant and tied up too neatly for me.
Overall a good read, I really enjoyed it and I have ordered Simon’s first book Without Trace and I cannot wait to start it.
