The most personal and tender novel yet from Patrick Ness, the twice Carnegie Medal-winning author of A Monster Calls. It’s Saturday, it’s summer and, although he doesn’t know it yet, everything in Adam Thorn’s life is going to fall apart. But maybe, just maybe, he’ll find freedom from the release. Time is running out though, because way across town, a ghost has risen from the lake…
My Event Review
On a sunny day in Edinburgh, I ventured to the Patrick Ness event, hosted by Blackwells Bookstore. Today the event wasn’t being held in the store but at the George Lecture Theatre in the heart of the Edinburgh University. Which let me know from the start that this would be a busy and popular attraction. It took me a little while to find the event, but it was nice to walk around the huge campus and find my way.
I don’t always purchase books at then events because I go to so many and I just don’t have the bank balance. However, on this rare and special occasion, I did.
The theatre is huge and as I rushed in I was over the moon to get a front seat. The theatre very quickly filled up to the brim. There was a fantastic air in the room of excitement. Ann landmann, Blackwell’s fabulous event’s manager took to the stage and gave Keith Gray who was interviewing Patrick Ness, a great introduction. In turn, Keith Gray then introduced Patrick Ness. As Patrick Ness walked onto the stage the room erupted in applause and gasped breaths of excitement.

Keith Gray, was perfect at asking the right questions and giving Patrick Ness the time to reply.
Patrick Ness explained that ‘Release’ is his most personal story yet. I don’t do spoilers in my reviews so I will let you read the book and see why.

Afterward, I queued up to get my book signed. There were a lot of people and it took quite a while, I noticed some people had five, six books they wanted to be signed. By the time it was my turn I was fraught with nerves, my legs were like jelly. As I stepped up onto the stage I tripped and nearly fell. I was mortified, apologising to Patrick Ness, but he just wanted to make sure I was ok. I asked if I could give him a card and if he had time if he could visit the blog. As I handed it over he said ‘Oh I know of Love Books Group’ I nearly fainted right there on the spot.

A wonderful event, I left with dispersed nerves, replaced by happiness. Patrick Ness, makes a great impression. With his honest personality and how he would never tell you how to think or feel. But he will tell you what he thinks about topics and how they make him feel.

Love his books! He’s doing an event in Birmingham where I live on Wednesday- sadly I’ve got theatre tickets that night so can’t go. I’ll have to read the book though
