Meet the Author | Charlotte Stevenson

Charlotte Stevenson was born and raised in North West Cumbria.

She studied Medicine in Scotland and continues to work part-time as a doctor.

Charlotte writes dark, twisty psychological thrillers with elements of psychological horror, drawing inspiration from her fascination with the complexity of human behaviour and the darker depths of the mind.

Her first novel was The Serial Killer’s Son.

She now lives in Greater Manchester with her husband, three children and two rambunctious dogs.

When she’s not writing or working, Charlotte is an enthusiastic audiobook listener with an ever-growing to-be-read pile that she has no intention of controlling.

A Therapist Who Knows How to Manipulate

Psychological thrillers often explore the secrets people keep and the lengths they’ll go to protect themselves.

In The Therapist, Charlotte Stevenson places a particularly unsettling character at the centre of the story.

Dr Jenna O’Hara is a therapist who understands human behaviour and knows how to manipulate the people around her.

She has already escaped the consequences of one death.

Now, with her career damaged and her future uncertain, she’s desperate to reclaim control.

But someone knows what happened, and the very skills Jenna has relied upon may not be enough to protect her.

The result is a premise built around a fascinating question: what happens when someone who is accustomed to controlling others suddenly becomes the target?

A Fresh Start Threatened by the Past

Jenna believes she has an opportunity to begin again.

A wedding and a move to Scotland represent the possibility of leaving her old life behind.

But the arrival of a threatening note changes everything.

Someone is watching her.

Someone knows her secret.

And someone wants revenge.

As the pressure grows, Jenna finds herself in a position she’s not used to: reacting to another person’s plans instead of creating her own.

For readers who enjoy thrillers driven by secrets, threats and shifting power, this creates an intriguing foundation.

Manipulation, Revenge and Consequences

At its heart, The Therapist explores the consequences of actions that cannot simply be forgotten.

Jenna may have escaped punishment, but the past remains a powerful force in her life.

The mysterious notes suggest that someone else has been carrying the weight of what happened.

The story raises questions about guilt, accountability, revenge and whether a person can ever truly outrun their decisions.

It also turns the familiar idea of a therapist helping others understand themselves into something darker, with Jenna’s understanding of human behaviour becoming a tool for manipulation.

An Explosive Follow-Up to The Patients

The Therapist continues the story following The Patients.

Readers who enjoyed the earlier book can return to the unsettling world of Dr Jenna O’Hara and discover what happens when the consequences of the past begin to catch up with her.

The premise centres on a woman who has already got away with murder, making her both a compelling and morally complicated protagonist.

Rather than a conventional innocent victim, Jenna is someone with dangerous secrets of her own.

That makes the question of who is watching her, and why, particularly intriguing.

Why Psychological Thriller Readers Might Enjoy The Therapist

A morally complicated central character

Jenna is not a straightforward heroine. Her willingness to manipulate others adds an unsettling dimension to the story.

A mysterious threat

The arrival of threatening notes creates an immediate question about who knows Jenna’s secret.

A battle for control

Jenna’s usual methods are challenged when someone else begins determining the rules.

Themes of revenge and accountability

The story explores what happens when the consequences of past actions refuse to remain buried.

A continuation of an established story

Readers of The Patients can discover the next chapter in Jenna’s increasingly dangerous life.

A dark psychological atmosphere

With secrets, surveillance and escalating threats, the premise offers plenty of tension for thriller fans.
