That same night, Michael encounters Kiku, a frightened boy from Japan who speaks no English and is hiding from people close to him who are plotting his death.
Michael is the only person who can understand him – not just because he speaks Japanese, but because no one else would believe Kiku’s story, much less risk helping him and the ghost who watches over him.
The deeper Michael digs into both mysteries, the more he realises some secrets refuse to stay buried.
And someone is willing to do anything to keep the truth hidden.
Michael promised his family he’d stay out of danger.
The first time he leaves the house, he’s already broken that promise.

About the Author – Sedonia Guillone
Sedonia Guillone writes emotionally rich modern gothic fiction and romance, where ghosts, buried secrets, mystery, healing and enduring love intertwine.
Her stories explore everything from haunted streets in Tokyo to hidden grief and the search for hope, united by her belief that even our deepest wounds can become the beginning of transformation.
A lifelong storyteller, Sedonia knew she wanted to become an author at the age of six. At sixteen, one of her short stories earned an honourable mention from the League of American Pen Women.
Her work has received recognition across multiple genres.
His Beautiful Samurai was nominated for a Gaylactic Spectrum Award and has been taught as part of a college LGBTQ+ literature course.
Men of Tokyo: Sudden Bliss received a Rainbow Awards Honourable Mention, while Lady of Two Lairds was a finalist for several romance awards.
When she’s not writing, Sedonia enjoys baking, spending time with her cats, Iroh and Zuko, and hiking through the forests of Maine with her longtime partner.
