About Future Song
Near-future Bristol. When the daughter of Laia, a climate refugee, is kidnapped, who can she trust as she desperately searches for her baby girl? Francis, the mysterious private detective who turns up out of the blue, has his own reasons for helping her scour the city. Then there’s Shalott, the folk figure with flowers in her hair – surely she and her many followers could help? But up close, her motives are sinister.
Above all, is Laia’s stolen daughter, rumoured to be the ‘child of the future’, the key to survival that this climate-ravaged city is so desperate for? Or a sacrifice for the witches in business suits? Laia’s running out of time to find her.
A compelling story of fusing hope, realism and justice as we live through the time of climate change.
A Climate Thriller Set in Near-Future Bristol
What happens when a mother’s desperate search for her child becomes entangled with the future of an entire city?
In Future Song, Tim Kindberg imagines a Bristol reshaped by climate change, where survival, power and competing visions of the future collide.
Laia, a climate refugee, is plunged into a nightmare when her young daughter disappears.
With time running out, she must decide whom to trust, from a mysterious private detective to a charismatic folk figure whose apparent promises of hope conceal something far more sinister.
As rumours spread that her daughter may be the mysterious ‘child of the future’, Laia discovers that the stakes extend far beyond her own family.
Blending speculative fiction with mystery, suspense and social commentary, Future Song explores the human consequences of climate change and the lengths people may go to when the future itself feels uncertain.
Perfect for readers who enjoy thought-provoking science fiction, near-future thrillers, complex mysteries and stories that explore the relationship between humanity and a changing world.
