Pyr by Adrian Lowe
What happens when free thought becomes an act of rebellion?
Love Books Tours is joining Adrian Lowe for a Bookstagram Tour of his second novel, Pyr, a work of literary fiction and satire exploring an authoritarian society being pushed towards the brink.
For readers drawn to stories about power, corruption, political hypocrisy, banned literature and morally complicated characters, Pyr presents a world in which ideas themselves can become dangerous.
About Pyr
Following an early release from prison, young political prisoner Alfie leaves his provincial village behind and heads for the ruthless capital of an authoritarian state.
With help from an old friend, he finds work as a waiter inside an exclusive members’ club.
It gives Alfie an extraordinary view of the people at the top.
Behind closed doors, the political elite flaunt their excesses, and before long Alfie finds himself being pulled into hypocrisies of his own.
Haunted by his past and increasingly unable to confront the person he is becoming, Alfie’s life changes again when he meets an ageing professor.
Their unlikely friendship develops over cheap beer and banned literature.
The professor is a relic of another time, someone who remembers life before the once-celebrated revolution that created the regime now controlling their lives.
Exposed to free thought and ideas that challenge the world around him, Alfie’s internal conflict grows.
Then one irreversible decision sets events in motion.
The consequences could determine not only Alfie’s fate, but the fate of an entire nation.
