About the Book

In 1989, a prominent family becomes the target of a shadowy extremist group.

Private detective Peter O’Keefe is hired to uncover the threat and protect the family from the danger closing in around them.

His investigation leads to a remote fundamentalist enclave, an isolated and disciplined community whose leaders appear to be preparing for something they refuse to name.

To discover their true intentions, O’Keefe and his partner Sara Slade must infiltrate the compound posing as husband and wife.

Every false smile and borrowed prayer takes them deeper into a world governed by obedience, secrecy and a charismatic leader whose revelations carry the weight of law.

For O’Keefe, what he discovers inside also brings echoes of a past he hoped never to face again.

As the militants move towards a violent reckoning, O’Keefe and Slade must find a way to stop them while protecting the innocent people caught in their path.

Meet the Author

Dan Flanigan is a novelist, playwright, poet and practising lawyer.

Alongside a long legal career, including work as a school desegregation lawyer, Dan has pursued his lifelong ambition of creative writing.

Since 2019, he has published novels in his award-winning Peter O’Keefe detective series, the poetry collection Tenebrae: A Memoir of Love and Death, and the short-fiction collection Dewdrops.

His writing also extends to the stage, with plays including Secrets and Moondog’s Progress.
