About The Weapon and the Fruit

A Hammersmith primary school teacher has been murdered.

The circumstances?

Rather puzzling.

She’s found locked inside her own home with a knife buried in her chest.

The victim was supposedly admired by pupils, parents and her pet spaniel, but her recent erratic behaviour had created more than one potential enemy.

There’s appearance-obsessed newspaper columnist Ciara Gallen, the mother of one of her pupils.

Colleagues have secrets.

Neighbours have grudges.

And her dog probably deserved a little more attention.

Faced with the bizarre case, DI Esi Owusu and DS Pawel Krol call on their good friend and eccentric associate, Private Detective Lance Pomegranate, for help.

Australian Lance’s preference for living barefoot — and his irreverence towards anyone who challenges him about it — soon turns Ciara from suspect into determined adversary.

And Ciara has the power of the press behind her.

With their reputations and Lance’s career at stake, the investigating trio are fighting against both the clock and the court of public opinion.

Meanwhile, the killer is still among them.

About L. E. Bendon

L. E. Bendon was born in 1983 and, in his own words, wishes Terry Pratchett were still not dead.

He had built a satisfying life as a musician until 2020 put everything on hold. Faced with unexpected free time, he decided to discover whether he could write, polish and publish a novel.

In creating irreverent detective Lance Pomegranate and the characters surrounding him, Bendon draws on a mixture of what he knows, what he’s read and ideas he simply likes.

Originally from London and now living in South India, he’s known primarily as a musician who spends an awful lot of his spare time writing novels on his laptop in cafés.

And what does the L. E. stand for?

He hasn’t decided.

For now, we’ll go with Ludwig Elderberry.
