From 1st–14th September, Love Books Tours will be travelling across the globe with Belonging to the World by Barry Hoffner, published by Girl Friday Books.

This 405-page memoir begins with devastating loss before becoming an extraordinary story of travel, healing, resilience and human connection.

About Belonging to the World

In the aftermath of losing his wife and travel partner, Jackie, to sudden tragedy, Barry Hoffner was consumed by grief.

Eventually, a quiet but insistent call to reconnect with the world began to stir.

What started as a reluctant return to travel became an audacious quest to visit all 193 countries in the world — a feat achieved by fewer than 500 people worldwide.

His journey would take him from war zones to mountaintops, refugee camps to ancient ruins.

But this became about far more than simply ticking countries off a list.

Across the globe, Barry discovered unexpected joy, resilience and the profound kindness of strangers.

Belonging to the World is a deeply felt memoir about healing from grief, finding resilience and forging human connection across the world.

About Barry Hoffner

After a fifteen-year career in investment banking that took him around the world, Barry Hoffner transitioned into a second career farming grapes and olives.

His Silverwood Ranch olive oil has earned multiple gold medals, while his wine grapes have been bottled into Francis Ford Coppola’s Archimedes wine.

Today, Barry is the founder of Caravan to Class, a nonprofit he launched in 2010 to advance girls’ education in West Africa through the Bourse Jackie programme, named in honour of his late wife.

Belonging to the World chronicles Barry’s journey to every country in the world following Jackie’s tragic passing in Africa in late 2017.
