Spicy Little Curses by J.T. Geissinger
Five stars — and I’m saying that as someone who isn’t even a huge fan of the spicy genre.
I love these short, punchy, spicy titles, though. There’s something about a novella that just gets in, causes chaos and leaves without overstaying its welcome. And when an author can keep me completely hooked in a genre I don’t naturally gravitate towards? That’s talent.
From the start, the French Quarter setting had such a moody, sultry vibe. Urban legends, tattoo parlours, ancient curses — I was sold. Dax Rousseau? Proper dark, dangerous energy. The House of Ink and Blood alone is a name that deserves applause.
What I really enjoyed was how the supernatural thread was woven through the heat. The tattoos coming alive? That eldritch, slithering menace? It gave it proper Halloween atmosphere rather than just being spice for the sake of it.
And Petra being sceptical at first made it work so much better. I liked that tension between disbelief and attraction. It made the story feel grounded even when it was getting deliciously dark.
It’s seductive, yes. It’s intense, definitely. But it’s also clever and atmospheric — and that’s what kept me turning the pages.
I’m not always reaching for paranormal romance, but when it’s done like this — tight, creative, a little dangerous — I’m absolutely in.
A dark, sexy, one-sitting treat that proves short doesn’t mean shallow.
