Book Review: Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
I’ve been meaning to read Lock Every Door for ages, and it did not disappoint! Riley Sager takes the classic “locked-room mystery” and gives it a deliciously sinister twist.
From the moment Jules steps into the Bartholomew, I could feel the unease creeping in. The building almost becomes a character in its own right—beautiful, luxurious, but with a pulse of menace running through it. The rules Jules must follow seem odd but harmless at first… until they’re not.
The pacing is brilliant—short, sharp chapters kept me saying “just one more” until I realised I’d read half the book in a single sitting. The suspense builds steadily, and when Ingrid vanishes, I was completely hooked, racing alongside Jules to figure out what on earth was going on behind those locked doors.
It’s definitely more of a high-drama, edge-of-your-seat thriller than a slow-burn mystery. Some of the twists are a little over the top, but they’re so entertaining that I didn’t mind. The ending ties things up neatly, though it left me feeling just a touch unsettled—in the best way.
If you love glamorous settings with a creeping sense of dread, unreliable neighbours, and a protagonist you can root for, Lock Every Door is a very satisfying, binge-worthy read.
