🤷‍♀️ When Everyone Says Yes, But I Said “Meh” – My Take on The Answer Is No

The Answer Is No by Fredrik Backman – ★★★☆☆

I read The Answer Is No by Fredrik Backman, and while many of my friends found it hilarious and heartwarming, I found myself in the minority. The story follows Lucas, a man who cherishes his solitude, enjoying video games, wine, and pad thai. His peaceful life is disrupted when his apartment board confronts him about a frying pan left near the recycling room, leading to a series of absurd events.

Backman’s writing is undeniably clever, and his portrayal of the chaos that ensues from a simple misunderstanding is both satirical and insightful. However, I often struggle with humour in books, and this story was no exception. While I appreciated the underlying themes of human connection and the complexities of modern life, the comedic elements didn’t quite resonate with me.

In summary, The Answer Is No is a well-written short story that offers a humorous take on the challenges of solitude and community. It may not have been my cup of tea, but I can see why others enjoyed it.
