The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

Book Review
Witches are for life not just for the month of October.
As I was sticking to my choice to start reading the books I already own. I went to pick up The Ex Hex and I thought to myself nope not that it is a Halloween read. But then I caught myself on. Why can it only be read then? Yes, reading it during Fall and Halloween adds to the spooky feels. But the book deserves to be read at any time of the year and so I did.
Now I am not very good with what is deemed a funny read these days. Is it because I am too old and it doesn’t land? My favourite types of humour are sarcastic and awkward. And The Ex Hex hit my humour sweet spot head on.
When Vivienne Jones is wallowing and drowning herself in vodka following her break up from Rhys Penhallow a brilliant idea hits her and allong with her cousin they decide to make him pay by doing only what they can. By performing the hex on Rhys it will make everything better…. or will it?
Fast forward years later and the two will be reunited and the hex well, you will have to read the book to see if it had any lasting effect.
This was hilarious and laugh out loud (awkward) funny. I loved all the references throughout to things I loved too. The romance element was believable and not cheesy. The book was not about the will they won’t they back and forth. It was more how do we fix this predicament we are in before we all die
I loved the world building of the town and the characters. An amazing escapism of a read that I really connected too and immediately I went and bought book two and pre-ordered book three.
I hope this is a really long series. I can see myself picking up The Ex Hex again when I need a good chuckle.
This would be perfect for fans of Fiona Walker who I find does awkward humour very well too.
I ask that you too, start reading the witch themed books throughout the year.
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered I was indeed with The Ex Hex all the stars and more.
Blurb
Vivienne Jones handled the biggest break-up of her life the way that any witch would: vodka, bubble baths, and a curse on her ex.
That was nine years ago. Now Rhys Penhallow, descendant of the town’s founders, breaker of hearts and still irritatingly gorgeous, is back. Rhys has returned to the quaint town of Graves Glen to recharge the ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival. But when his every move results in calamity, Vivi realises that hexing her ex might not have been so harmless after all . . .
As the curse starts to affect the magic of the town, resulting in murderous wind-up toys, an outraged ghost, and a surprisingly talkative cat, Vivi and Rhys must put their personal feelings aside and work together to break the curse and save not just the town, but also Rhys’s life.
