Pride and Prejudice

Adaptation, Theatre

26th August
For high society, life in the 19th century is a whirlwind of luxurious parties and eligible gentlemen. Lizzy Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy stand among the madness as the only sane, thoughtful people. They might make a good match… if they didn’t bitterly hate each other! Can they reconcile their differences before the champagne stops flowing? In this outdoor production, Illyria sharpens their claws to serve up a story about choosing love, keeping secrets, and spilling the tea! Pack a picnic and enjoy Jane Austen at her vibrant, bitchy best!

Review by Kelly Lacey

A delightful evening under the stars at Musselburgh Racecourse! Illyria’s outdoor production of “Pride and Prejudice” brought Jane Austen’s classic tale to life with a modern twist. The enchanting setting complements the story of love, misunderstandings, and societal norms beautifully. The cast’s chemistry was palpable, particularly between Lizzy Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy, who stole the show with their fiery exchanges and undeniable attraction. The witty dialogue and sharp humour kept the audience engaged from start to finish, and the infusion of contemporary sass added a fresh layer to the timeless narrative. As the sun set and the characters navigated their complexities, it was impossible not to be swept away by the elegance of it all. A must-see for Austen enthusiasts and romantics alike – this production was a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern charisma.
