The Shawshank Redemption lived up to the high standards set by its legendary source material. Showing at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre this week. I urge you to run don’t walk to see it.

The incredible cast of Joe Absolom and Ben Onwukwe was truly magnetic and engaging as the show unfolded, both giving incredible performances as Andy Dufresne and Red respectively. Their story of courage, determination, and friendship in the face of unimaginable adversity kept the audience enthralled and captivated throughout.

The play deftly shifted between emotional poignancy and dramatic suspense to powerful effect. Even though it was over two hours long, it was over before I knew it!

Overall, it was a masterful staging of one of cinema’s all-time greatest stories, and definitely one of the must-see theatrical events of the year!
