Review

Firstly I adore the cover, it screams winter and Christmas time. This is the second book in the Portmellow series. When Scarlet and Ellie give their Mum and Dad a present on Christmas Day, everyone’s world is turned upside down. Will they ever be the same again.

I really enjoyed getting to know Portmellow. I am a fan of books that work around a village and we get a sneak peek at all the villagers. Phillipa Ashley has the right balance of just teasing us with memorable characters, that maybe will appear in the follow-up books as the main character.

I liked the sisters Ellie and Scarlet, they were relatable and nice people. I cared about what happened to them. The storylines that Phillipa Ashley created were interesting and refreshing. Although the cover of the book may scream Christmas the book really only has an essence of the holiday and could be read at any time of year.

Exciting times ahead for this fictional cast of characters in Portmellow. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
