Last Seen Alive by Claire Douglas

Sometimes a book comes along that ticks every box. Last Seen Alive does just that and much more. Genius, is the word I would use to describe it. I was terrified and completely puzzled at who was the bad guy/woman. Have I been hiding under a rock? Why did it take me so long to discover Claire Douglas.

Back of the Book

She can run

Libby Hall needs to escape from everything for a while. which is why the house swap is a godsend. The chance for Libby and her husband Jamie to exchange their tiny Bath flat for a beautiful haven on the wild Cornish coast.

But she can’t hide

But before they can begin to heal their fragile marriage, Libby makes some disturbing discoveries about the house. And soon the peace and isolation begin to feel threatening. How alone are they? Why does she feel watched?

Because someone knows her secret

What is Jamie hiding? Is Libby being paranoid? And why does the house bring back such terrible memories? Memories of the night she last saw her best friend alive . . . and what she did.

Review by Kelly Lacey

I was in a reading slump and needed something to get my reading game back on point. Last Seen Alive did that and so much more. The writing is genius and it will have you going round and round trying to figure it out. You won’t be able to guess the next twist or turn because they come so quickly from left field they just wallop your brain.

We meet Libby and Jamie Hall who have been through a tough time of late and really need to getaway but lack of funds means it is not a possibility. Until a note coming though the letterbox that might provide them with a little quality time away. But at what cost?

I loved Libby from the first page she’s such a fragile soul that you can’t help feel for her. Jamie is your typical flaky husband aks mummy’s boy who really doesn’t know or understand how to help her.

This creepy intense and wonderful read had me up way past my bedtime. I just couldn’t get enough and I was terrified. But in a truly awesome way. I may have slept with the light on because well, Claire Douglas has a way of winding up your brain and you start seeing things over in the dark corner or wait was that a shadow at the door….

I can’t wait to read Claire Douglas’s other books. I highly recommend Last Seen Alive.
