Last night I betrayed my husband.

This morning my daughter disappeared.

This crime fiction read has had a lot of hype over the last few weeks on social media. I was eager to jump and in and find out why.

When Tabitha doesn’t come home for dinner Miriam her mother goes into panic mode. Having her own secrets means she can’t reveal everything to the police and her husband who is working in LA.

Here in follows a rollercoaster of plot twists and a flip flop look into the past. The plot is clever and I think having Ruby’s voice too was very important to the story.

We have narratives by three people in first person. I found that having two main characters with names beginning with M threw me for a loop and as the chapters are very short I struggled to get a grasp on Madison and Miriam’s voices. It did hinder my enjoyment of the book.

I had heard great things about I, Witness by Niki Mackay and I know lots of people were eagerly awaiting the sequel. I hadn’t read I, Witness but I don’t think that it affected my understanding of the charachters. There is just enough back story given for the reader to understand.
