Where do I start with this book? Its brought a lot of debate to my life. Lately, there has been much talk about having trigger warnings in reviews. If I did that with this book it would take up the whole book.
The book starts with Julianne receiving some devastating news via her son about her husband. That, in turn, starts the wheels of the plot running. It moves between the 1990s and 2019. With a whole host of the most disgusting charachters, I have ever read about.
At the core of this book are sex and power. It has many topics including rape, abuse, homophobia and many more. Most of which I found very difficult to read.
The characters are awful fictional people. Think of Steff in Pretty in Pink, the character played by James Spader but ten times worse. An elitist group of people and with no care about the devastating consequences of their actions.
The book will cause a lot of debate in your head. It still does with me. It is extremely current and modern. I see similar cases in the newspapers on a monthly basis.
Would I have continued to read the book if it wasn’t for the tour? I am not sure. It did make me uncomfortable but the message of the book is so important and the writing is really good. That’s why I gave it three stars.
Overall a book that will stay with me for a while.
