So, I read a lot of UK crime fiction novels and they are gruesome and they really go into a lot of realistic details. This wasn’t the case with The Other Girl, number one it’s set in the USA and two, although it’s crime fiction it’s done in a different way than I am used too. Which wasn’t a bad trait it just made me hum and haw at first about whether I was enjoying it? I did get caught up in trying to see where it would fit, it’s not a gritty crime fiction but it certainly isn’t cosy crime either.
I found the book easy to read, extremely fast paced and with a great storyline. I read it over a couple of hours and it had me gripped. I really didn’t like the characters, I found Miranda, impulsive and too trusting. Jake is most definitely not your loyal ride or die, fella.
The book intertwines an incident from the past with a current homicide. Miranda, get’s caught up in a whole lot of trouble. But who can she trust? Where can she turn?
The cover is stunning and I am so glad I have it in a physical copy. I wouldn’t hesitate to read anything else by Erica Spindler. If you were thinking of dipping your toe into the crime fiction pond, then this would be the perfect book to start with.
