|Synopsis|

There are people who write novels and then there are novelists. Ok, so all of the online dictionaries define a novelist as a person who writes novels, but you know what I mean. Novelist implies taking a skill set to a whole new level. Anna del Mar, author of The Guardian, definitely falls into this category.  Part of the Wounded Warrior series, The Guardian is a contemporary romance and a whole lot of kick ass more. For romance readers, there is everything you would expect from the genre, a central love story, some super hot love scenes, and….. (no spoilers, if you are a fan of romance you know what else to expect!) For those who are into adventure, beautiful scenery, a super solid plot, incredibly in depth characters, and a whole lot of suspenseful action then skip the love scenes if you must, but read the book!

 

One of my favorite parts of The Guardian is the setting. The cover is a beautiful snapshot into what you will experience with Ms. Del Mar’s incredible narrative. The beautiful African savannah sun is the perfect backdrop for the true hero of the story. I personally am way more attracted to this novel by the picture of this guy with his tee-shirt and dog tags than I ever would be by some bare chested photo. Also, the African setting is a main character in its own right. Inspired by the author’s own experience in Africa, the reader is truly transported to a world of raw beauty and danger, power and vulnerabilities.

 

The Guardian follows the story of Matthias’ struggle to protect the people and animals he loves from the most despicable of poachers. At the same time he fiercely tries to protect Jade, a newcomer to both Africa and his heart,  whose very presence threatens to compromise all he has done. Jade is a super strong female main character, an ex-military hero in her own right. She is as resilient as Matthias and just as damaged. Reminiscent of Jodi Picoult’s Leaving Time (another novel I highly recommend!) The Guardian spotlights the disturbing atrocities and awe-inspiring qualities of the African elephant herds.
