A Fractured Winter is an ideal read for folks that like their thriller books gore and swearing free. Set mainly in Switzerland we follow the life of Olivia as she struggles to come to terms with the disappearance of a local girl called Sandra.   Consumed by the disappearance of the little girl her own life then becomes complicated and dangerous when her secret past catches up with her unexpectedly.

For me, the story is women’s fiction with a thread throughout of a psychological thriller. I couldn’t connect well with Olivia the main protagonist. She is a very haunted and fragile character and I so wanted to be rooting for her but I just needed her to be a lot stronger and less wishy-washy.

Alison Baillie has a true knack for setting a sense of place. On the bookish journey, we visit Switzerland, England and Scotland. I loved reading the chapters that featured Edinburgh and Portobello. With the gorgeous Portobello only 15 minutes from my house. I could see everything in my mind and Alison describes it so beautifully.

A Fractured Winter would be perfect for Book Clubs as there is so much to discuss.

Alison Baillie takes you on a cultured journey across the globe with twists and turns in every chapter.
