Jo Baker was this afternoons event for us at The Edinburgh International Festival 2017. Chaired by Alexandria Lawrie.
A Country Road, A Tree by Jo Baker is nominated for a James Tait Black Fiction 2017 award.
A fascinating insight into why Ms. Baker chose the theme of Samuel Beckett. It turns out Ms Baker is a huge fangirl of Mr. Becketts work and the man himself.
The novel is set when Beckett returns to Paris to be with his partner and what happens when he joins the resistance. Ms. Baker said that she didn’t include Mr. Becketts name in the book as it hindered her writing process.
A very inciteful hour and not a book I would have thought to review but now one that I am very eager indeed to read.
