Last night I experienced one of those magical life moments. Obviously, as a blogger, I read a huge amount of books.  All good in their own way. But on a rare occasion, one comes along that has an added sparkle. For me, that is The Uncommon Life Of Alfred Warner In Six Days By Juliet Conlin.

I was invited by Black & White Publishing to be part of the Blog Tour for the book. Which I thoroughly enjoyed and was so happy to be part of. You can read my review on the blog.

On a cold and wet Edinburgh night, the warmth and love were spilling out of The Edinburgh Book Shop in Bruntsfield Place, for The Uncommon Life Of Alfred Warner In Six Days as people gathered to listen to Juliet Conlin talk about her novel.  Jenny Brown, who is Juliet’s agent, was engaging and vivacious as she chaired the talk.

I managed to have a few minutes talking with Juliet about the book and also her past and future endeavours.  I asked if Juliet planned her novels beforehand. She explained that yes she had started out doing that but then felt constricted by it and quickly dispersed of it.  We talked about who would play Alfred in a movie but couldn’t decide.  It was interesting to learn about Juliet’s first novel The Fractured Man. A story of a man who seems to change personality when he copies others handwriting. It’s definitely one I will be adding to my own personal reading pile. In terms of the next novel that too sounds fascinating and is set in Shanghai. From 1933 to 1941, Shanghai accepted almost 30,000 European Jews who escaped from Nazi Persecution and the Holocaust.  Which I did not know, Juliet told me they had their own area known as a Ghetto and her book is based about two characters. I can’t wait to read it.

I got my book signed by Juliet Conlin and it was so special. I will treasure the book and the event. Juliet’s lovely family were there too. Her father David Conlin took some time out to talk with me and you could see he was so proud of his daughter. He also told me about his love of Bird Watching and his appreciation for Whiskey.

As I walked out the beautiful store into the cold night. My heart was warm with happiness and I didn’t feel the cold at all as I felt like skipping down the hill (yes even at my age)  I was filled with the buzz and sparkle of the event.
