📖 About the Book
September 1939. War is declared, and for Bob and Annie Kelty, life is about to change forever. They are forced to foster twelve-year-old Ellen Laing, an evacuee from Finnieston in Glasgow, whose fiery temperament and troubled past make settling into village life far from easy.
As tensions rise between the Glasgow evacuees and the residents of the sleepy village of Crieff, Ellen struggles at school — not least due to her unsettling teacher, Miss Lorna Carrington, who seems to harbour an immediate dislike for her.
When a series of arson attacks rocks the village, locals are quick to place the blame on the evacuees. But as Bob Kelty begins to investigate, he starts to suspect a far more disturbing truth — one that suggests the real danger may be much closer to home.
Atmospheric, character-driven, and rich in historical detail, Barvick Falls weaves crime and history into a gripping wartime mystery.
