About the Author
M C Mackay spent a magical childhood in Fort William, a small Highland town on the shores of Loch Linnhe, beneath Ben Nevis and at the entrance to the Great Glen. After studying English, she pursued careers in advertising, HR, training consultancy, and antiques dealing — often with a baby under one arm while scouring the countryside for hidden treasures.
Early success saw her short stories published in magazines, followed by further study for an MLitt in Creative Writing. It was only after her children left home that she found the opportunity to write full-time.
Now, with holidays spent on Deeside among the Cairngorms, ancient Caledonian forests, and peaty rivers, her writing is deeply rooted in the landscapes and communities that inspire the Ballochbrae mysteries.
