When the charming Spanish botanist Rafael de Rias enters their lives before mysteriously joining her father abroad, both girls are enthralled, then dashed. Iris is inspired and also faces disgrace working as rebellious Princess Louise’s chaperone in Balmoral. But after receiving devastating news, Iris uncovers the secret tale of a rare black orchid. Enlisting help from Annie’s brother Struan, can she piece together a botanical mystery?

Author bio
Jane Anderson is an Edinburgh based writer of historical fiction. Born in Fife she studied English Literature at Edinburgh University. Jane spent most of her life living overseas in countries as far flung as Vietnam, Azerbaijan and Egypt. Travel inspires her writing and retelling history from the point of view of women is where the fun begins. The Girl Who Fled the Picture was published in 2023 and The Paintress in 2024. The Orchid Hunter’s Daughter is scheduled for 11th November 2025.
