My Pick of the Panels: Debut Prize Panel
Continuing my highlights for this week, the Debut Prize Panel on Friday, 13th September, from 4:30-5:30 PM at the Central Library is one event I’m especially excited about. It’s a chance to discover fresh voices in Scottish crime fiction and hear directly from the authors behind some of the most talked-about first novels of the year. Best of all, it’s free (though ticketed), so there’s no excuse to miss it!
The Bloody Scotland Scottish Crime Debut of the Year prize may have a long title, but it’s one of the most coveted awards at the festival. This year’s shortlisted authors are each remarkable in their own right, and during the panel, they’ll discuss their debut novels before heading to the prize ceremony at the Albert Halls.
Let’s meet the finalists:
- Suzy Aspley for Crow Moon, a captivating story weaving mystery with deep emotional layers.
- Daniel Aubrey for Dark Island, a thrilling debut that promises chilling atmosphere and intense suspense.
- Allan Gaw for The Silent House of Sleep, a haunting and intricate novel that blends historical intrigue with a compelling crime narrative.
- Doug Sinclair for Blood Runs Deep, offering readers a gripping, fast-paced mystery set against a dramatic backdrop.
- Martin Stewart for Double Proof, which is already generating buzz for its unique take on crime fiction.
This event will be chaired by BBC journalist Pauline McLean, ensuring an engaging discussion about what it takes to create a standout debut novel in the crime genre.
If you’re looking to discover new talent and get ahead on your next must-read list, this panel is a fantastic opportunity. Don’t miss the chance to hear from these rising stars of Scottish crime fiction!
More panel picks coming up this week as we count down to the festival!
