Life of Pi

Based on the best-selling book by Yann Martel, the five-star hit show comes to Edinburgh.

Winner of five Olivier Awards, including Best New Play! After conquering the West End and Broadway, the āāāāā ā€˜theatrical phenomenonā€™ (Telegraph) embarks on its biggest adventure yet.

Jaw-dropping visuals and world-class puppetry combine in a unique and ā€˜breath-takingā€™ (The Times) theatrical event that is ā€˜a wonder to beholdā€™ (Daily Mail).

After an epic storm in the Pacific Ocean, Pi is stranded on a lifeboat with four other survivors ā€“ a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, and a Royal Bengal tiger.

Based on the global phenomenon and winner of the Man Booker Prize, selling over fifteen million copies worldwide, Life Of Pi is the hugely popular story of an epic journey of endurance and hope. Donā€™t miss the West End and Broadway spectacle on its first-ever UK tour.

Review

Going into reviewing tonightā€™s performance of Life of Pi, I was wondering how it was going to work. Would I be less bamboozled than I was when I read the book? The answer is it works perfectly.

Life of Pi Production Photos New Cast – taken on 7th September 2022 in London

Sonya Venugopal gave a flawless, fragile heartfelt performance from start to finish. I was in awe and I felt overwhelmed at times with the sensory intake but Ms Venugopal made it a safe space to sit, watch and listen.

I feel like the performance should be a class at University or High school. There is so much to learn from the story and so many scenes to dissect and everyoneā€™s takeaway will be different.

It is at points brutal but it is necessary but it definitely not for all the family. I feel twelve plus would be best.

I really enjoyed the set and the puppetry. It is the core of the performance and I havenā€™t seen anything like it before. There is such a life-like connection between the cast of animals (puppets) and Pi. I canā€™t imagine the work it would take to rehearse with the puppeteers. As well as acting plus every step has to be so carefully choreographed. It was really something very special to watch.

You will leave the the theatre talking about the puppets, the storyline and the unforgettable acting of Sonya Venugopal.
