Back of the Book
It’s New Year’s Eve, and the stage is set for a lavish party in one of Edinburgh’s best postcodes. It’s a moment for old friends to set the past to rights – and move on. And yet, the celebration fails to materialize.
Because someone at this party is going to die.
Midnight approaches and the countdown begins…and it seems one of the guests doesn’t want a resolution.
They want revenge.
But there are many present at the party who might have reasons for seeking revenge, and just as many who have spent their lives trying to outrun it. So who is the killer, and who is the victim?
Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn and Lucy Foley, It Ends at Midnight will haunt readers long after its stunning finale as it questions what we are willing to say – and believe – to ensure our own peace of mind.

Book Review
I have had It Ends, at Midnight on my TBR for quite some time. I read it on NYE which was very appropriate given the plot. Harriet Evans sets the book up perfectly. In an expensive area in Edinburgh, two people fall from the roof of a house. Flying through the air they are both impaled on the spiked railings. Gruesome indeed but oh so clever as you the reader spend the whole book trying to work it out.
I did enjoy the past and present chapters. It added a layer and through the past chapters, you learned much more about Sylvie and Tess (her bestie). I love it when a cover actually represents the story and this cover ticks all the boxes with the famous Edinburgh Clock taking pride of place.
I had a few struggles with the book. The pacing was tough for me and I think that was down to me not liking the MC Sylvie. I found myself shouting at her in my head. I usually love a character that is different or annoying. But I found that combined with the pace, I was counting the chapters I had left to read. I had also figured out a plot twist quite early on. I do think having the cliffhanger as the opening chapter is very clever. I feel if that hadn’t been the case this might have been a DNF read for me. I think I wanted my last read of 2023 to be mind blown and It just didn’t happen.
I do know other friends who loved the book. So as with most things, it is great to have wide differing opinions. So don’t let my thoughts put you off. I just always aim to be kind but transparent.
