Her Last Holiday by C.L. Taylor – A Moderate Mystery with Some Thrilling Moments
Her Last Holiday by C.L. Taylor brings readers into a world of mystery surrounding a wellness retreat that takes unexpected turns. While the book garnered attention within the book community, my experience with it was a mixed bag.
The plot, although occasionally stretching the bounds of believability, managed to maintain a level of intrigue that held my interest. The twists and turns, while not always seamlessly executed, added an element of surprise that contributed to the overall suspense. While the narrative wasn’t entirely realistic, it did offer moments of excitement.
Character development remained a weak point, with the main characters feeling somewhat underdeveloped. Fran’s quest to uncover the truth about her sister’s disappearance had the potential for emotional depth, but the execution left room for improvement. Similarly, Tom Wade, the central figure in the story, lacked the complexity needed to make him a truly memorable antagonist.
The Soul Shrink Retreats provided an interesting setting, adding a unique backdrop to the unfolding mystery. However, I couldn’t help but feel that this intriguing concept wasn’t fully explored or utilized to its full potential.
The ending, while not entirely satisfying, did manage to tie up some loose ends. However, a more robust and conclusive resolution would have added to the overall reading experience.
In summary, Her Last Holiday is a moderate thriller with moments of suspense. While it may not be a standout in the genre, it offers a good reading experience, particularly for those who enjoy mysteries with a unique premise.
