Author Bio

M. Amelia Eikli is a Norwegian-born author, artist, project alchemist

and public speaker. She lives with her wife and over-filled bookshelves

in Weston-super-Mare, England. Her previous works include several

short story collections and chapbooks. What Survives is her first novel.

What Survives by M. Amelia Eikli is a powerful and haunting dystopian novel that will grip you from the first page. The story takes place after a devastating global pandemic has wiped out most of the world’s population, leaving behind only piles of corpses and an unsettling silence.

Our protagonist, who remains unnamed, sets out on a journey across Europe to find out if her family has survived. She’s accompanied by her loyal dog, Scram, and a photo of her wife. Along the way, she encounters the remnants of society and the chaos that has ensued in the wake of the pandemic.

The writing in this novel is breathtaking. The author has created a vivid and visceral world that feels all too real. The descriptions of the abandoned cities being reclaimed by nature are hauntingly beautiful. You can almost feel the weight of the silence and the desperation of the survivors.

One of the most intriguing elements of this novel is the yellow-eyed creature that seems to be following the protagonist. Is it real, or is it just a figment of her imagination? This adds a layer of mystery and tension to an already gripping story.
