BOOK REVIEW

As I read Annie Payne’s gripping novel “The Doctor,” I was transported into the world of Dr. Alison Wilson, a skilled medical professional who has landed a job as the Medical Officer at St. Margaret’s Hospital. From the start, Payne masterfully sets the tone for a thrilling mystery with her vivid descriptions of a hospital in chaos and a protagonist who has her own secrets to hide.

As Alison begins her new role, she quickly realizes that there is something not quite right at St. Margaret’s. Records are in disarray, morale is low, and there’s a pervasive sense of unease in the air. As she digs deeper, Alison discovers that there is a killer on the loose within the hospital. But who could it be? And what dark secrets is the hospital hiding?

Payne’s storytelling skills are truly top-notch, keeping me hooked until the very end. I loved the way she gradually built the suspense and intrigue, making me constantly question the motives of every character. I was impressed with the way she crafted her characters – especially Alison, who is complex and flawed, making her all the more realistic.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed “The Doctor.” It’s a masterfully written thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat until the final page. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good mystery with plenty of twists and turns. Four stars!
