The Heights by Louise Candlish

Ellen Saint is just your average mum. Devoted to her family, she’s no different from any other mother who wants the best for her kids. But when her teenage son Lucas brings a new friend home, cracks start to appear in Ellen’s perfect family life.
Kieran Watts isn’t like Lucas. He’s rude, obnoxious and reckless, and Ellen can only watch in despair as her son falls deeper under his influence.
Then Ellen’s whole world implodes and she embarks on an obsessive need to get revenge.
BOOK REVIEW

I just finished reading The Heights by Louise Candlish, and I must say, it’s one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve ever read. The way Candlish builds up the tension and suspense gradually, right up until the dramatic and unforgettable climax, had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
What really struck me about this book is the way the writing is so precise and atmospheric. Candlish really knows how to paint a picture with her words, bringing the tall, slender apartment building among the warehouses of Tower Bridge to life in such vivid detail that it feels like a character in its own right.
But it’s the characters themselves that really make this book shine. The protagonist is a fascinating and complex character. As the story unfolds and we learn more about their motivations and obsessions, it becomes clear that nothing is quite what it seems.
All in all, I would highly recommend The Heights to anyone who loves a good psychological thriller. Candlish’s writing is top-notch, the characters are fascinating, and the plot will keep you guessing until the very end. Four stars!
