Fade Into You by Catriona Child

As soon as I heard about the book launch for Fade Into You by Catriona Child at Blackwells in Edinburgh on 21st March, I was filled with excitement. I could hardly wait to go, so I reached out to my good friend Joanne Baird, the book reviewer from Portobello Book Blog, and we decided to go together.

We arrived early to find a wonderful, vibrant atmosphere; a host of fans, readers, bookworms and bibliophiles all sharing the same excitement. As Catriona emerged, the audience welcomed her with cheers and applause. She started to speak, talking passionately and emotively about the creative process that brought her novel to life.

I could feel my heart swell as she revealed the layers of this incredible story. All the ’90s references were creating a lot of fuzzy and heart-warming memories and I really cannot wait to read the book.

All in all, I had an amazing experience attending the Fade Into You launch.

Blurb

It’s 1994, Kurt Cobain has just died, and teenager Alex is spending the summer working in her Aunt’s Bed and Breakfast in rural Argyll. The village pace of life is slow compared to home in Edinburgh and Alex resigns herself to a quiet summer spent serving breakfasts and making beds. Everything changes however once she meets the twin brothers who live next door.

Spanning the next fifteen years of Alex’s life, Fade Into You is a love letter to growing up in Scotland in the 90s and 2000s. Set against a backdrop of T in the Park and the war in Iraq, soundtracked by Britpop and Grunge mixtapes, with the sweet taste of tablet, it is a novel about growing up and growing apart. It explores the intensity of childhood friendships, how they change as we get older but how they never really leave us.
