A Murder is Announced

Adapted for the stage by Leslie Darbon
Directed & designed by Michael Lunney

Middle Ground Theatre Company Ltd is delighted to present its acclaimed production of a classic Miss Marple mystery.

The residents of Chipping Cleghorn are astonished to read an advert in the local newspaper that a murder will take place this coming Friday at Little Paddocks, the home of Letitia Blacklock.

Unable to resist, the group gather at the house at the appointed time, when the lights go out and a gun is fired. Enter Miss Marple, who must unravel a complex series of relationships and events to solve the mystery of the killer…

Now in its fifth year of touring, this lavish production has delighted packed audiences across the UK and Ireland and is brought to you by the company and director who produced the critically acclaimed courtroom thriller The Verdict.

Starring Sarah Thomas (Last Of The Summer Wine), Barbara Wilshere (The Lakes/The Paradise Club), Tom Butcher (The Bill/Doctors), Karen Drury (Brookside), Lucy Evans (Coronation Street), Tom Gibbons (The Archers) plus a full supporting cast.

Contains loud gunshots and one brief strobe effect

Review by Kelly Lacey

My first ever experience with Agatha Christie and I absolutely loved every minute. This two-hour whodunit fun-filled mystery was entertaining and with terrific performances from the cast. As a huge Brookside and Last of the Summer Wine fan, being able to see Sarah Thomas (Miss Marple) and Karen Drury (Dora Bunner) act in real life was such a treat. The cast was incredible with no weak links. But they were my two favourites.

The set was simple but effective with one scene with a gunshot that was over quick. For anyone sensitive to loud noises, it only happens once and it is quick.

The story was so interesting and as a huge fan of modern-day crime fiction. You can see the influence that Agatha Christie has had on the genre. An intricate well-thought plot is brought together so nicely at the end.

The costumes were perfect and Wadrobe Manager Blossom Beale certainly captures the essence of that time period and it really adds an additional visual enjoyment to the performance.

I will be looking out for more performances from the Middle Ground Theatre Company. The quality of the whole performance from start to finish was extremely high and it left me wanting more.

A must-see performance from a terrific ensemble.
