Back in 2014 I had the huge honour of being shortlisted in the Romantic Novelists Association, Romance Novel of the Year – Contemporary Romance Category (RoNA), for my debut novel Bridge Over the Atlantic. This book was re-published in 2017 when I signed a four book deal with Aria Fiction. The new title is A Seaside Escape and the new version has been very well received.
I’m a happily married mum of one with two energetic dogs who make cameo appearances in some of my books. I love writing and creating new characters and now have the pleasure of writing almost full time.
In 2012 my family and I relocated from England to our favourite place in the world, Scotland, and we are now happily ensconced in village life. The stunning location was the inspiration for my writing career and so it’s only right that it features in all of my books.
Writing has always been something I’ve enjoyed, although in the past it has centered on poetry and song lyrics; some of which appear in my stories. But to now be a published author is a real dream come true.

- What book from your childhood still has a place in your heart today?
It would have to be J D Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye. I loved Holden Caulfield’s ‘voice’ in the book and how he articulated the struggles of growing up whilst trying to maintain something of his childhood innocence.
- Which fictional character stayed with you long after you finished the book?
I think Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. I loved his mean and moody nature but I was also drawn to how passionately and fiercely he loved. He really is the epitome of the word mercurial!
- Can you tell us a little about your journey with your new release?
A Year of Finding Happiness was a delight to produce. Not only because it was actually requested by my readers but because my very own ‘Heathcliff’, aka Greg McBradden, was a wonderful character to write. I’ve grown very fond of him since introducing him in A Seaside Escape and I think he will always be my favourite character from my own books.
- Do you get an emotional connection to your characters?
Oh gosh yes! Terribly attached! Greg is a great example of that. I found it very hard to let him go when his story was complete and I’m constantly trying to conjure up ways to bring him back in other books. Up to now I haven’t managed to fit him in but never say never!
- What was your favourite read of 2017?
I think it would have to be c! This was both a new author and a new genre for me but I was absolutely gripped; so much so that I read the rest of the Shetland series in quick succession!
- If your book came with a theme song what would it be?
I usually have a set list in my head for my books as I’m crazy about music and I have this fantasy that one day there will be a movie—a girl can dream! I think the one song that sticks out in my mind from A Year of Finding Happiness is ‘Ever Fallen in Love’ by the Buzzcocks. It’s quite apt for the story and it features at a gig that Greg plays. But there are some really heartfelt love songs that make me think of the story too. One would be Newton Faulkner’s ‘Dream Catch Me’ as it too expresses Greg’s feelings very well and I could imagine that playing during the end credits of the movie… sigh.
- Is the genre you write your favourite to read?
It used to be but I’ve been trying to broaden my reading horizons now and I love nothing more than to be gripped and pulled in to a crime thriller!
- If you could ask your readers anything, what would you want to know?
What is it specifically about my books that make you come back for more? If I know this I can keep doing it!
- What are you working on now?
I’ve just finished with edits on my September release which takes place in a little seaside village I based on a place I love very much. But currently, I’m writing my fourth book for my publishers Aria Fiction. I had a fantastic meeting with my editor Lucy in the middle of June and talking about the story with her has excited me so much about writing it. I can’t really share anything just yet but know that there is something in the works!
