Hello everyone, today I have my review of Whiteout, written by Ragnar Jónasson on the blog. I received an ARC copy in exchange for a free and honest review. Thank you to Orenda Books and Anne Cater for the opportunity. #TeamOrenda

Two days before Christmas, a young woman is found dead beneath the cliffs of the deserted village of Kálfshamarvík. Did she jump, or did something more sinister take place beneath the lighthouse and the old house on the remote rocky outcrop? With
winter closing in and the snow falling relentlessly, Ari Thór Arason discovers that the victim’s mother and young sister also lost their lives in this same spot, twentyfive years earlier.
As the dark history and the secrets of the village are unveiled, and the death toll
begins to rise, the Siglufjordur detectives must race against the clock to find the killer, before another tragedy takes place. Dark, chilling and complex, Whiteout is a haunting, atmospheric and stunningly plotted thriller from one of Iceland’s bestselling crime writers.
Review
One of my best reads of 2017 that’s the best way to start my review. This was my first experience of Ragnar Jónasson’s writing and I thoroughly enjoyed the style. It’s refreshing and modern. Grabbing my attention and whizzing me along for a white-knuckle ride! I just buckled up and savoured every page.
I loved having some insight into the victim at the start of the book, it made me emotionally invest in a way I hadn’t done before.
With a terrific plot that blew me away. The story flows so easily with a varied bunch of characters. Each intriguing in their own way.
I was salivating at the thought of LAUFABRAUÐ which is mentioned a few times. Translated it means Leaf Bread.

The book really brought Iceland to life for me. I loved learning about Christmas Eve traditions and the book had a beautiful calming sense to it which added a different enjoyable creepy level to it.
Translated beautifully by Quentin Bates, this will definitely not be my last Ragnar Jónasson novel.
